Youth Cycling League

Youth Rider/Racer Development and Youth Cycling League at the Alkek Velodrome

The Alkek Velodrome is all about track cycling being a launching point and constant development opportunity for youth cycling. The Alkek Youth Cycling League has been the beginning point of many Regional, State, National Team Members, and National Champions. We are devoted to the success of our youth program as it is the future of our sport. The direction of our Youth programs this year will be no different. We will strive for the same excellence, and strive for a more all-year consistency in programming for our youth riders.

For 2017 Alkek Velodrome youth programs will be expanded. We will keep our Summer Camps and we will be adding to our offerings to youth cycling in the 2017 cycling season.

New for the 2017 season.

  • Monthly youth racing introduction class
  • Coached weekday training on Thursday evenings. Tuesdays will continue to be an open session
and riders can train freely and share workout with the Alkek Junior Team.
  • Free and permanent assignment of a bike for regular participants
  • Weekly racing opportunities starting in April
  • Introductions and exposure to local race teams and programs
  • 2017 Youth Cycling League is an all-year program.

We will introduce new riders to the Alkek Velodrome during our monthly Adult/Youth ‘new rider’ classes. The youth riders will receive an instructor of their own on these sessions. After this…

Thursday evening open sessions will have a youth rider class focus. Workouts will be provided to youth riders who have taken an introduction class. All session are conducted in a ‘large or small group’ format. There will be no personal training session during our workouts. All new riders must have gone through
the intro class before participating in evening sessions. Tuesday’s workouts will be coached in conjunction with the Alkek Junior Team’s workout.

Youth riders who are consistently riding and training at the velodrome will be assigned a bike use for the season at no charge. Riding session fees are still applicable.

New youth racers will be racing during regular Friday Night Racing series with the other junior racers, however, we will calculate their results into both the Youth League Series and Alkek Velodrome Championship Series results. Awards and prizes will be earned by the winners.

Cost: Training sessions are $2 per session and bike rentals are $2 per session. A $20 – 10 session pass will be available for your convenience. Parents may earn ‘ride time’ for their child by volunteering at the Alkek Velodrome (Inquire while at the track).

Pre-Registration: not necessary, but it suggested that you contact Coach Carl when you plan coming out the first introduction class or evening training session to make sure you are ready for inclusion.
